Pastor Jim Weaver

Jim has been the pastor of First Baptist Church of Springfield since January 1996. Jim comes from a family involved in Baptist ministry. His father was a pastor in Virginia. His brother teaches in the Religion Department of Baylor University. His mother worked for the Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia and still serves in the music ministry of her church.
Jim was born in Lynchburg, Virginia. He attended public schools in Prince William County and the City of Richmond. He is a graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He earned the Master of Divinity degree and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in New Testament from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
In addition to his ministry in Springfield, Jim has been the pastor of churches in Indiana, North Carolina, and Kentucky, and he has served on the staff of a church in Richmond. He has also been an adjunct professor at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Montreat-Anderson College in North Carolina, and the John Leland Center for Theological Studies in Northern Virginia.
Jim and his wife, Diane, have two daughters, Lauren and Emily, and a son, Matt. Lauren is a graduate of the College of William and Mary. She has worked as the Assistant Editor in the Communications Department of the Baptist World Alliance and currently is a student in the Master of Social Work program at Virginia Commonwealth University. Emily is also a graduate of the College of William and Mary, and she has completed the Master of Social Work program at Virginia Commonwealth University. Emily served in Botswana as a Journeyman missionary with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. She and her husband, Andy Brown, live in Alexandria. Matt, a graduate of Virginia Tech, is a student in the Physician’s Assistant program at James Madison University. Diane is a kindergarten teacher with the Fairfax County Public Schools. Jim enjoys spending time with his family, summer family vacations, reading, an occasional round of golf, and the New York Yankees.
