Carol Stewart

Director of Children's Ministries


Carol became the Director of Children’s Ministry of First Baptist Church of Springfield in July2014 but has been a member since 2000. Carol has been a part of Baptist churches since attending First Baptist Church of Norfolk when she was a child with her sisters. She remembers serving in the bus ministry as a 5th grader
leading songs. Carol accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior during this season of
her life.

Carol was born in Norfolk, Virginia. She attended public schools in Norfolk. She is a graduate of Virginia Tech where she earned a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education. She earned a Masters degree from Chapman University in Education, Curriculum and Instruction.

Prior to joining the church staff in Springfield, Carol has taught in public and private schools in Virginia, California, and Florida. She also taught Preschool at the Dayschool for two years. She is active in the church choir and has been working with the youth and children’s ministries in various capacities since arriving in Springfield, including being the Vacation Bible School Director in 2013.

Carol and her husband, Jim, have three sons, Travis, Tyler, and Timothy, and a daughter, Katherine (Katie). Travis and his wife Dara are residents of Christiansburg, Virginia where they work and are completing their undergraduate studies. Tyler and his wife, Ashton, live in Birmingham, Alabama where he is pursuing his PhD in biochemistry and she works as a sonographer. Timothy is a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. Katie is an undergraduate at Virginia Tech and desires to be a physical therapist.

Carol and her husband Jim live in Springfield. Jim served in the Navy for 27 years and now works in the Pentagon as a government employee. Carol enjoys playing cards, reading, and board games as well as travelling and seeing her children and going to VT football games.
